Western Digital has released its Caviar family HDD based on the 320 GB-per-platter technology, the WD Caviar SE16 640 GB 3.5-inch hard drives. The WD Caviar SE16 SATA and EIDE drives are certified for Windows Vista and are top performers on the Windows Vista Experience Index. The latest generation of WD Caviar SE16 drives employs Perpendicular Magnetic Recording technology to achieve even greater areal density. The Caviar Series features 300 MB/s transfer rate, 16MB cache, Native Command Queuing (NCQ), and cool operating temperatures and quiet operation, enabling customers to integrate WD products in the most demanding desktop and external storage environments. Its two-platter design promotes cool, quiet operation in a high-capacity drive.
