Verizon Wireless has announced the availability of the Sierra Wireless AirCard 595U USB modem, providing access to its high-speed Evolution-Data Optimized Revision A (EV-DO Rev. A) network. Customers using the AirCard 595U modem can expect average download speeds of 600 kbps to 1.4 Mbps and average upload speeds of 500-800 kbps. The AirCard 595U modem comes with VZAccess Manager software, which is compatible with Windows 2000, XP and Vista operating systems. The AirCard 595U modem also features an internal, removable battery to ensure there is always enough power support to handle peak or fringe area transmission requirements.
The AirCard 595U modem is compatible with USB ports on most notebook and desktop computers and can be connected through the included docking cradle, which provides an alternative for customers without PCMCIA card slots. It will be available in stores on August 30 with price at $179.99 after a $50 mail-in rebate and a new two-year customer agreement. Customers can get BroadbandAccess service for unlimited Internet browsing, email and intranet access for $59.99 monthly access with a new one- or two-year customer agreement.
