
NTT DoCoMo, Inc. has announced the development of smart phone FOMA HT1100. This HTC Touch with a retractable keyboard is running on Microsoft Windows Mobile 6.0 Japanese-edition operating system, comes with a 2.6-inch touch screen with a QVGA resolution, a 2-megapixel Camera module at the back and 1-megapixel camera at the front for video call purpose, FM Radio tuner, as well as Bluetooth. The FOMA HT1100 with 3G and HSDPA capability allows users to interface with PCs through proven applications such as Outlook Mobile and Internet Explorer Mobile with convenience, while employs McAfee security scan to ensure high-speed, protected browsing of PC websites and email management. The FOMA HT1100, targeted at active business consumers who also want a handset for personal use, will feature HTC’s stylish and versatile TouchFLO Touch Cube 3-dimentional interface that allows users to access and operate a variety of functions with the slide of a thumb. Audio visual files, such as YouTube Mobile content, can be enjoyed using Streaming Media software and HTC’s Audio Manager music player. The FOMA HT1100 supports DoCoMo’s WORLD WING international roaming service.

High Tech Computer (HTC) is expected to launch its second touch screen-controlled smartphone supporting a 3.5G standard. The new smartphone is likely to be the HTC P5500 (codenamed Nike) which the company unveiled in the first half of this year. The P5500 will be built using a CPU from Samsung Electronics and chipsets from Qualcomm, and supporting the WCDMA standard. HTC is expected to enjoy a leading position for the earlier launch of a 3G/3.5G compliant touch screen smartphone since the 3G version of the iPhone is not expected to come until the first quarter of 2008, the sources noted.
