Intel has released the detail of its low-cost notebook platform, the Intel Shelton’08. The platform adopts Intel’s single-core Diamondville CPU with a core frequency of 1.6GHz, 533MHz FSB and power consumption of 3.5W. The platform’s total power consumption is around 8W, translating to battery usage time of between 3-4 hours. The Shelton’08 also consist of a 945GSE chipset, which includes built-in DirectX 9 graphics and supports single channel DDR2 memory. A 802.11g Wi-Fi module, USB/PATA port SSD (solid state drive), and a 7- or 8-inch panel will typically round out the platform, noted the sources.

Hewlett-Packard has planned to release four new Pavilion laptops based on the new Intel Penryn processor, after the Compaq series. The new Pavilion laptops are the HP Pavilion HDX 9200 with 20.1-inch display, the Pavilion dv2700 with 14.1-inch display, the Pavilion dv6700 with 15.4-inch display and the Pavilion dv9700 with 17-inch, all are based on the new Intel Santa Rosa Refresh platform.

Among the four new comers, the HDX 9200 is the most attractive model that comes with various Intel processors support, including Core 2 Extreme X9000/X7900 and Core 2 Duo T8300/T8100. It features 4GB of RAM, 640GB storage, dedicated NVIDIA or ATI graphics card, HD DVD / Blu-ray drive, HDMI, wireless, integrated camera, remote control, hybrid TV tuner, fingerprint reader, and Vista. Well, the remaining models features Intel Core 2 Duo, dual layer DVD burner, Intel GMA, and same other configuration.

You might be aware about the Energy Star specification, it’s the rules set for computer equipment in order to have low power consumption. From July 20, 2007, Energy Star’s new specifications for computers goes into effect, Energy Star 4.0. The new computer specification is expected to save consumers and businesses more than $1.8 billion in energy costs over the next 5 years and prevent greenhouse gas emissions equal to the annual emissions of 2.7 million vehicles. Since computers are in use many more hours per day than in the past, Energy Star has strengthened its requirements to better save energy among computers and related equipment under today?s usage patterns. At launch, 122 desktop and notebook PCs met the Energy Star 4.0 qualification. 102 of those 122 qualified products are notebooks. Big-name notebook makers with models approved for the Energy Star include Dell, Gateway, Lenovo, Acer, Toshiba, and Hewlett-Packard. Dell, Gateway, and HP also have desktop models.
