A new solid state disk (SSD) has been unveiled by A-Data. It comes in 1.8-inch and 2.5-inch form factor with SATA and PATA interface, with a maximum of 64GB storage capacity. The SSD features anti-shock function, longer data retention, faster access time, and lower power consumption, which is ideal as hard drive replacement in portable device, such as notebook, UMPC, PMP and camcorder.

Samsung has announced a new 160GB drive in a 1.8-inch form factor which is often used in compact notebooks and some portable audio and video players such as the video iPod. This 4200rpm Spinpoint N2 drive is targeting mainly consumer applications such as portable media players and hard drive-based camcorders (which typically top out at 60 GB today). The 2-disk, 160 GB drive has enough room to carry about 40,000 MP3 files or about 100 HD movies. Other features are 15ms seek time, sub-1W power consumption.

JVC has released its new series of its fancy Everio camcorders, with its noticeable improvement for the HDD / SDHC-compatible, Everio GZ-HD3. The GZ-HD3 is stated to have a 60GB internal hard disk drive (HDD), along with the ability to record onto SDHC memory cards. It will not offer the full 1920 x 1080 HD ? only 1440 x 1080 in an MPEG-2 TS file type.
