Samsung SMT-i8080 phone
Samsung Electronics has announced its SMT-i8080 phone for home users that want more than just voice calling. It’s equipped with an Ethernet connection that allows the phone to participate in two-way video calls through its flip-up LCD and embedded video camera. Navigation controls directly below the LCD addtionally bring a handful of Internet features well-suited to a land line: owners can buy from certain stores and reserve movie tickets, stream audio, or watch a selection of Internet-based TV channels.

Hong Kong’s PCCW says it will help launch the i8080 by offering the phone with its ADSL broadband access in the region. However, Samsung says it sees a market for the phone and models like it in the US, Europe, and the remainder of China in the near future. Prices depend on the service and will typically involve a subscription to the phone’s special Internet features.
