NEC LCD Technologies has introduced two new 6.5-inch amorphous-silicon TFT liquid crystal display (LCD) modules with high luminance and video graphics array resolution, TFT LCD Modules NL6448BC20-21C and NL6448BC20-21D. The new LCDs eliminate the need for an inverter circuit by employing white light emitting diodes (LEDs) for the backlight system, instead of the cold-cathode fluorescent lamps (CCFLs) that are traditionally used. The white LED backlight system achieves low power consumption in a slim package that, while lightweight, is highly resistant to shock and vibration, making it ideal for use in portable display systems in industrial applications. By eliminating the need for an inverter circuit it becomes possible to curb the generation of high-frequency noise and harmonic current.
