abit AX78 AMD Phenom motherboard
abit has announced their latest AMD 770 chipset-based motherboard, the abit AX78, the first motherboard with native support for AMD Phenom quad-core processors delivering best performance for true quad-core processors, HyperTransport 3, Dual Channel DDR2 1066 memory, PCI Express 2.0 and CrossFire X. The unique abit engineered features set you apart from others and warrant for a most advanced computing experience with abit’s patented Silent OTES heatpipe, 4-phase PWM for AM2+ processors, 100% Japanese made capacitors for lasting durability and the external EZ CCMOS switch to reset your BIOS without the need to open your computer case.

The latest Phonom FX processor from AMD features a true quad-core computing power through the implementation of four cores in on silicon, an increased L3 cache shared by all four cores, native support for dual channel DDR2 1066 memory modules, latest HyperTransport 3 bus technology which boosts the data transfer rate up to 20.8 GB/s. The AX78 is also equiped with two PC Express 2.0 x16 slots (1 x16, 1 x4 bandwidth) supporting ATI CrossFire X dual graphics, one additional PCIe x1 and three PCI slots for upgrade, integrated high definition 7.1 channel audio, a total of 10 USB 2.0 ports of which 4 are accessible through the back panel the user has sufficient connectivity for other multimedia devices of all kinds.

abit also introduced some engineered features:

  • abit SoftMenu. The complicated procedure of tuning or even just adjusting the BIOS settings frequently gives users a hard time. With this ease-to-use BIOS-based interface, you have direct access to all major system parameters.
  • External CCMOS Switch. You are able to clear the CMOS memory directly from the back panel, using abit’s innovative new EZ switch. If you are pushing your hardware to the extreme and experiment with risky settings, you do not need to open the computer case to go back to save grounds.
  • abit Slient OTES. The abit patented heat pipe absorbs and conducts heat from the NB to a special heatsink at the PWM area where the airflow from the CPU fan rapidly exhausts the heat from the computer case.
  • 4-Phase-PWM. On the abit AX78 motherboards, abit provides 4-phase-PWMs. With 4-phase-PWMs, the system is providing better power supply and increased stability. Moreover, each phase is composed of one high-side MOS and two low-side MOS. This design adds to a better power switch efficiency.
  • PWM Heatsink. To provide end-users with the best and the most stable system environment, abit designed a dedicated heatsink on the PWM area. Generated heat is efficiently dissipated and the system remains cool and stable all the time.
