AMD has planned to launch several low-power variants of its quad-core Phenom and dual-core Athlon CPUs to launch late this quarter or early in the second quarter of 2008. On the Quad-core side, there will be Phenom 9100e with a core frequency of 1.8GHz, DDR2 1066 memory controller and TDP of 65W, and followed by Phenom 9150e. Three dual-core low-power processors will be launched: Athlon 4850e (2.5GHz, 1MB L2 cache and DDR2 800), Athlon 4450e (2.3GHz, 1MB L2 cache and DDR2 800) and Athlon 4050e (2.1GHz, 1MB L2 cache and DDR 800).

Intel has released the detail of its low-cost notebook platform, the Intel Shelton’08. The platform adopts Intel’s single-core Diamondville CPU with a core frequency of 1.6GHz, 533MHz FSB and power consumption of 3.5W. The platform’s total power consumption is around 8W, translating to battery usage time of between 3-4 hours. The Shelton’08 also consist of a 945GSE chipset, which includes built-in DirectX 9 graphics and supports single channel DDR2 memory. A 802.11g Wi-Fi module, USB/PATA port SSD (solid state drive), and a 7- or 8-inch panel will typically round out the platform, noted the sources.

The chip maker leader, Intel, has introduced its latest processors based on 45nm fabrication process. All of them includes the company’s latest innovations that boost a PC’s speed, reduces power requirements, saves on battery life, helps the environment and comes in smaller packages for more fashionable and compact computer designs. According to Intel, the processors are up to 25 percent smaller than previous versions and are free of environment harmful elements such as lead and halogen. Among the 16 new products, 12 are designed for new laptops and desktops products and four are for servers.

Of sixteen, five are notebook chips based on Intel Centrino technology for laptops, and delivers improved content and video capabilities with HD DVD and Blu-Ray support with an optional third-party decoder. Centrino-based notebooks also come with the Mobile Intel 965 Express Chipset and wireless networking including the optional support for 802.11n networks with Intel Next-Gen Wireless-N. The firm also intents to launch its first-generation low-power platform chipset that will help deliver a range of ultra mobile and mobile Internet devices from a growing ecosystem of customers.

Intel 45nm Penryn
Intel is planning to launch its 45nm processors “Penryn” this coming January 2008, which consists of dual core “Wolfdale” processors and “Yorkfield” quad core processors. Prices are expected to increase somewhat compared to Intel’s previous roadmap, with the lowest priced dual core clocking in at around US$170, and the highest-priced quad core coming in at a reasonable US$270.

The Extreme QX9775 features 3.2GHz frequency, supports 1600MHz FSB (Front Side Bus), and uses the server-based socket 771. The new CPU is based on an Intel Xeon server processor and Intel will use SMP technology enable to Skulltrail to support up to two quad-core CPUs for enthusiast players in the desktop market, according to the sources.

According to the source at motherboard makers as reported in Digitimes, Intel is going to launch eleven 45nm dual-core CPUs for notebooks in the first half of next year, and the company is also planning to launch quad-core versions in the third quarter. The 45nm quad-core notebook CPU codenamed Penryn QC comprise of two Penryn cores in a multi-chip package, adopt Socket P (35m x 35mm), 12MB L2 Cache, 1066MHz FSB and 45W maximum TDP. Initially the Penryn QC will only appear in the Core 2 Extreme series and most Montevina platform notebooks will not support the quad-core CPU.
