Samsung has developed a new 31-inch active-matrix organic light-emitting diode (AMOLED) screen. AMOLEDs, which emit light when electricity is applied to organic materials, produce brighter and clearer images than liquid crystal displays (LCDs) and plasma display panels (PDPs). Global screen makers are scrambling to develop AMOLED products, with Sony’s 27-inch AMOLED screen being the largest one developed until now.

Hitachi has released its latest plasma TV with support Full HD, Hitachi P60-XR01. This 60-inch monster boasts a resolution of 1920 x 1080, a contrast ratio of 10000:1, and a brightness of 1000 cd/m2. It adopted Hitachi’s proprietary e-ALIS technology, a technology that makes it possible to display a high-definition image of 768 lines using 384 scan electrodes, along with an iVDR-S player that lets users to directly record their favourite TV programme in HD format.

LG and DivX has announced the launch of DivX certified Time Machine TV series in Plasma and LCD models. The DivX certified Time Machine TV series includes three LCD models: the LG 47LB5RE, LG 42LB5RT, LG 37LB4RT; and two plasma models: the LG 50PB4RT and LG 42PB4RT. The TV delivers remarkable image and audio quality for digital content using much less bandwidth than regular analog devices. The series features a built-in 80GB hard disc drive for Time Shift function and recording, USB 2.0 port for backing up recorded content and MP3, JPEG and DivX playback capability. The Time Machine TV Series also boasts a simultaneous watch-and-record function.

Panasonic rates its current line of 720p Plasma HDTVs to play for 60,000 hours to half brightness or 25 years at six and a half hours per day. It means the new rating for 1080p Plasma HDTVs will push the duration to more than 42 years before they reach half of their original brightness level.
